Beautiful Undersea Art by Wyland
The art of Wyland is some of the most spectacular artistic representations of sea life I've ever seen. His ability to capture not only the feeling of being underwater, but the colors and depth of the ocean is incredible. One of my favorite sculptures is "The Perfect Wave" which shows a pod of dolphins in a wave. The way he sculpted the Lucite creates light diffusion which mimics real water, and gives a really cool feeling of actually being underwater. Of course, what made Wyland famous were his "Whale Walls" where he painted huge murals of whales on the sides of buildings. These walls can be seen around the world and are completely unique to this artist. Wyland has announced that he will be painting his final (and 100th) "whale wall" on the Great Wall of China for the 2008 Olympics. Now is the time to collect Wyland art, because as soon as he completes his final wall, prices and values will go up. Some believe it may be signalling the end of his career, some say he is just going to focus on his collections. Regardless, he made his name and is most famous for his whale walls which he paints on the sides of structures. Like all artists, when they change their methods, or scale down what they are known for, the value of their previous works goes up. Wyland's art has always been a good investment, his collections are one of the rare cases in which value continues to grow even while he is still active, (and alive). If you have ever thought about buying a work by Wyland, now is definitely the time. He also continuously changes the mediums in which he works, sometimes abandoning his old styles altogether which further increases the value of some of his works. His newest style is to paint sealife on top of a photograph of an underwater scene. This blend of real-life background and imagined sealife gives a very nice feel to these works. |
