When to change a furnace filter
Many people are unsure of when to change their furnace filter, or how often, or even some people say "i have to change that?" So, what is the answer? The general rule of thumb is to change it once a month. The type of filter should not really affect that time period. Although there are super sheap filters (about 50 cents each), and really expensive ones (about $10 each), to get the best efficiency out of your furnace, you should change them every month. Even though the expensive filters boast that they are good for 3 months or 6 months, that is not necessarily true. While they will most likely function well at filtering out particles for a long period, they still clog up more and more over that time. So even though they are still filtering, less and less air is moving through them, causing you furnace to lose an incredible degree of efficiency. So, whether you use an expensive high quality filter, or a cheapo, you should still change it monthly to ensure optimum furnace efficiency. I would recommend using the high price filters only if you have serious alergies, or notice poor quality air. Otherwise, use the super cheap filters, which still work well. Regardless, make sure you change your filter monthly. |
